Bookie Paddy Power is predicting yet another mud-fest at this weekend’s Glastonbury, making it ODDS-ON that rain falls on all three days of the event.
With a traditional downpour forecast for the Saturday, the bookie is offering odds of just 1-2 that it rains on all three days of the music extravaganza. It’s 7/4 for more than 10cm of rain to fall and a much less likely 33/1 for the Glasto thermometer to top 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
In other Glastonbury gambles Paddy Power is also betting on the number of arrests made at the Festival, offering 9/4 for between 91 and 120 revellers being nicked. With headline acts like Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen likely to attract an older, more gentile audience to last year’s Jay-Z following this would be a fall on last year’s count of 137.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “Our betting might just give punters a chance to fill their boots with something other than the usual mud. Glastonbury wouldn’t be Glastonbury without rain and even though the weather forecast isn’t too bad by Glasto standards, the odds suggest it will be coming at some point.”
Paddy Power, who have already paid out on Bruce Springsteen being the main Saturday headline act at 16/1 from their annual “Who Will Headline Glastonbury” betting, is also betting on the opening song for Sunday headliners Blur. The Britpop comeback band are 9/4 to open with old favourite Beetlebum but should they look to begin with a bang after their nine year hiatus livelier songs such as Girls & Boys and Parklife are 5/2 and 10/1, respectively. Also in the running are Song 2 at 8/1 and Country House at 10/1.
